Dear Reader,

My name is Daarken and I am a professional illustrator and concept artist who has worked in the video game, print, and commercial industry since 2004. For the curious, Wizards of the Coast, Big Huge Games, and Blizzard are a few of my clients. A great friend of mine and animator from DreamWorks, Leif Jeffers, and I are organizing an art auction fundraiser to be be held in the latter half of 2010.

On April 10, 2009 My wife and Leif's best friend, Cat, was diagnosed with breast cancer at the early age of 25. On November 3rd, 2009 she underwent a bilateral mastectomy after a harrowing sixteen weeks of DD AC/T chemotherapy. Later she faced even more surgery … totaling in six from the first on April 23, 2009 to be finished sometime in April 2010.

As imagined, it has been terribly difficult for Cat not only mentally and physically, but also financially. In order to alleviate some stress and a small chunk her medical bills, Leif and I have decided to throw an art auction to help. Leftover donations from the auction, after medical bills have been paid, will be donated to a BC related charity. We hope to raise at least $10,000 to make a dent in her ever-growing medical bills.

We currently have contributing artists who hail from all regions of the industry: concept artists, animators, photographers, sculptors, fine artists, illustrators, you name it. The theme of the auction is "Beautiful Grim" and the interpretation of "Beautiful Grim" has been left up to the artists. December 15, 2009 is the deadline for artists wishing to voice their interest in contributing art and A tentative deadline for submissions is set for February 1, 2010.

We were just shy of the $10k goal and managed to reach $8,586.99! Words cannot express how truly we appreciate those who participated. If/As more art pieces arrive in the future, we may attempt to post them up for auction if requested by the artist. However, as of right now, this third wave will be the last.
